Dried beef with dried chillies (Shakam Shukam Datsi)

Here is the recipe of my favourite dish, the famous ” Shakam Shukam Datsi”. The most sought after dish among the locals.  Shakam is the dried beef, Shukam refers to the golden brown dried chillies and Datsi, of course is the Cheese.

Ema Shukam; are chillies that are first blanched in hot water and then dried in the sun. It has a different taste and when cooked together with Sha-kam and Datsi, a finger licking- mouth watering delicacy comes into being.

Ingredients;

50 gr. Dried Beef (Shakam)
10 Chillies (Shukam)
1-2 stalks of spring onions/ equivalent amt of leek
1 Tbsp Oil
50-100 gr. Feta Cheese
200 + 100 ml Water
Salt to taste

Preparation:
1. Chop the dried beef into small pieces. Rinse the chillies and leeks. Break the chillies into small pieces with your hand and cut the leeks into long strips.

2. Rinse the chopped beef and transfer into a pot. Add 200 ml water, oil and salt to it. Cover and cook for 15 minutes on a low medium heat or cook until the meat is tender.

3. Once the beef is cooked, add 100 ml water, chillies, leeks and cheese. Cover and cook further for 5 minutes.

4. Lower the flame to the minimum, Stir gently to blend the cheese well. Serve with rice.
